A 17-year-old may be issued a marriage license if certain conditions are met. If at least one of the people getting married is a resident of Georgia, a marriage license can be issued at a probate court in any county. If neither person is a resident of Georgia, the license must be issued in the county where the ceremony is taking place.

The Department of Public Health’s State Office of Vital Records maintains all of Georgia’s birth and death certificates. It also holds marriage records from 1952 to 1996. Although the department can confirm divorces, copies of the records are held by the Clerk of the Superior Court in the county where the divorce was granted.
